Everyone who works through IRS Group should go home safe at the end of every shift. This policy sets out how we work with our clients and workers to make that happen.
1. Our statement of intent
IRS Group (Industrial Recruitment Solutions Ltd and Industrial Recruitment Services Limited) will, so far as is reasonably practicable, protect the health, safety and welfare of our office staff, our temporary workers and anyone affected by our work, in line with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and related regulations.
Because our temporary workers work at our clients' sites, health and safety is a shared responsibility. The client controls the workplace day to day. We make sure the right information is exchanged, the right people are placed and any concerns are acted on.
2. Before a worker starts an assignment
For every new client and role we:
- find out the risks involved in the role and what the client has done to control them;
- confirm what personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and who will provide it;
- confirm any qualifications, licences, training or health requirements the role needs, and check that the worker has them;
- tell the worker about the role, the hazards and the PPE needed before they start;
- confirm the client will give the worker a site induction on their first day.
Where a role involves significant risk, or if we have concerns, we may visit the site before placing workers.
3. What we expect from clients
- Provide a safe place of work and carry out suitable risk assessments.
- Give every worker a site induction, including emergency procedures and first aid arrangements.
- Provide suitable supervision and any training needed for the role.
- Tell us straight away about any accident, near miss or incident involving one of our workers.
- Not ask our workers to do work other than what was agreed without first checking with us.
4. What we expect from workers
- Follow the health and safety rules and instructions on site.
- Wear the PPE required for the role.
- Only operate machinery or equipment you are trained and authorised to use.
- Never work under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and tell us about any medication that could affect your ability to work safely.
- Report any accident, injury, near miss or unsafe situation to the client and to IRS Group as soon as possible.
- Tell us if you are asked to do something you believe is unsafe. You will not be penalised for refusing unsafe work.
5. Accidents and incidents
All accidents and incidents involving our workers are recorded and investigated with the client. Where an incident must be reported to the Health and Safety Executive under RIDDOR, we will make sure this is done, and we will review what happened to stop it happening again.
6. Working time and welfare
We follow the Working Time Regulations 1998, including rest breaks, rest between shifts and the 48-hour average weekly limit (unless a worker chooses to opt out in writing). We take extra care with new and expectant mothers and with any worker who tells us about a health condition.
7. Our own offices
We assess the risks in our Coventry and Dudley offices, keep fire safety and first aid arrangements in place and make sure our office staff are trained to work safely.
8. Reporting a concern
If you have a health and safety concern about any assignment, contact your IRS Group consultant or your nearest office: Coventry 024 7531 2456, Dudley 01384 389522, or info@irsgroup.co.uk.
9. Review
This policy is approved by the directors and reviewed at least once a year, or sooner if our work or the law changes.
